Celebrating World Book Day

At my school today we celebrated World Book Day. I dressed up as Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. To prepare, last night I washed and braided my stick straight hair to create waves to match Hermione’s hair. I wore black trousers, my white school shirt and a Hogwart’s cloak. I brought my stuffed cat, Crookshanks, with me as well as my wand and my copy of Beedle the Bard.IMG_6569

Part of the celebration included a contest for the best costume. My friend, E, won for her Superwoman costume which she made by herself.

To start the day my teacher read aloud the book, Traction Man. When she finished, each of my classmates and I wrote our own unique continuation of the story, making up Traction Man’s next adventure.  I enjoyed this exercise because I made it so that his legs got cut off. This was funny to me because he is a doll that comes to life and now he is legless. The little sister in the house thought it would be fun to chop off his legs with scissors.

We had a school assembly to talk about World Book Day. In it they gave us a quiz and if one person from my class got it correct we would all receive a “privilege point” which enables us to buy toys at the school office. The quiz included 9 questions and was about book characters. This is challenging because not everyone has read all of the books in question.

The teachers were also in costume and for a fun game each went on stage and all the students had to guess their book characters. One dressed as Voldemort with Nagini on her neck, the other teachers were more difficult to figure out.

At the end of the day we were all able to choose one free book donated to the school for us to take home and keep. I chose The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Overall it was a fun day and I loved seeing all of my friends and teachers in fancy dress and not in their school uniform.
